I Don't Care If It Rains Or Freezes
69
Early this morning when I was looking in the mirror at my aging mug while shaving, a significant factor came to mind.
It occurred to me that during the past several weeks, ever since the “Wall Street Protests” began on Saturday, September 17, 2011, my faith has been getting stronger and stronger.
Also since that day, I have been worrying a lot less about what kinds of problems are in store for me and I have been feeling more confident that I will be able to effectively deal with any setback or crisis that might crop up.
Additionally, I have been becoming even more deeply entrenched -- than I already was -- in a way of thinking that causes me to firmly believe that I will always be able to “keep on keeping on,” no matter what.
As I continued to shave, I gave thought to the events and circumstances that have been causing me to feel more faithful and stronger, and less apprehensive.
Ironically, the growing “upbeatness” that I have been experiencing for the past five weeks or so stems from all the pessimism, negativity and panic that is flying around today.
As a specific example, the other night I was watching the CBS Evening News and the lead story was the growing number of “formerly-upper-middle-class” suburban dwellers whose incomes have declined so drastically they are now living near or under the poverty level.
One segment of the story was about the “hard times” that have hit a family that lives in a big beautiful home in a very nice neighborhood. And at one point, it was reported that “times have gotten so hard” for the family that they have been “forced” to convert one of their WALK-IN CLOSETS into a bedroom for their teenage daughter.
When I heard that, I damned near choked on the peanut m&m I was munching.
They had a closet, I questioned myself, and a WALK-IN one at that?
Causing the story to be even more “tear-jerking,” the girl’s mama was sitting at a long swanky table in a well-furnished dining room crying (literally) about the “forced conversion.”
When the story ended, I sat in my recliner thinking, If those folks are ever “forced” to use one of the parking spaces in their two-car garage for storage, the whole family will probably cash in their chips by chugging down tall glasses of ice-cold grape Kool-Aid heavily laced with hemlock.
Then, there are the “Wall Street Protesters.”
Well, because I have seen those people up close and personally, I can honestly tell you that the vast majority of them are well-nourished middle-to-upper-middle-class “free-white-and-21 types.” Most of them are attired in the “latest styles” and are wearing such footwear as expensive pairs of “Reeboks,” “Skechers,” “Nikes” and “Timberlanes.”
The point of all this is presently, there is a considerable number of people in America who are so lacking in faith that they are nearly scared to death. Because they do not “believe,” they are living in fear and they are pessimistic about the future -- and many are so panic-stricken, they are “acting out” in the streets.
In those people’s way of thinking, their salvation rests with such things as huge corporations and the rich becoming “nice guys” and spreading the wealth, the federal government “creating jobs,” getting the “right man” into the White House, and completely ridding the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate of dishonest politicians.
Getting back to what I mentioned earlier in this article, all of the negativity, pessimism and panic that is flying around today has prompted me to become even more faithful than I already was. I have been strongly reminded that for so long as I view Jesus, and only Jesus, as my Savior, I do not have anything to worry about.
And that is the reason why I don’t care if it rains or freezes.

So you are Faith filled,Feenix. You have been that way for the last five weeks or so,huh? Feenix, when a man grows older his fear of failure is much less than a younger family man with a wife and children to support. You and I have been successful in life or failed. When we take inventory, the positive affects on others that wouldn't have happen if we died at birth will be judged by our Creator.
And there are those who don't care if it rain are freezes, they are special people, for example you and Herman Cain are simular, he beat stage 4 cancer. You will be here as long as the Creator can use you for the overall good of mankind, fear not, worry not, it's does no good
One of the best reads I have encountered on your page.
Recently a question was passed around on FB, “What would you do if an EMP shut all electrical down?” Something to that effect. My thought was, “I would be more productive because I would not be spending time at the computer.”
Back in Oregon the electricity shut down for several hours. My wife and I set up the camp stove on the back porch, made a pot of coffee, and when her parents got there we played a board game until the electricity came back on.
Our society seems to make real problems more serious and complex than they really are, and I have noticed people spend a great deal of time worrying about what might happen.
A neighbor gave me a bunch of magazines that print stories of days gone by.
The Good Old Days
Reminisce
Stories from before, during, and after the Great Depression. To read what they went through without seeing themselves as destitute, I doubt more than a handful of our current citizenry could handle without offing themselves, certainly none of the occupy crowd.
Plus they have great recipes. I learned to make bread and butter pickles from one of these magazines.
A lesson of faith that took a few years to sink in for me is that God will not place on you burdens yu can not bear, especially if you keep God in the forefront of your thoughts.
It's funny you mention the Reeboks and Nikes and Skechers. None of those are made here. You could toss in the shirts they are wearing probably made in Bangladesh or Vietnam. Their caps are made in China for sure. Even the bullhorns aren't made here.
All the while all of these fools are shouting "We need jobs. We need money. We're being sold out."
None of them gets it that they've sold themselves out, and have been selling themselves out for some time.
Great hub feenix.
Did the family rent out the daughter's bedroom?
I have no sympathy for those who are not willing to do what it takes to keep a roof over their heads. Instead they think the world owes them a living.
Voted up and awesome
Hi Feenix! I always look forward to reading what you have to say and how you interpolate your own life experiences to make the point. You are a master writer! Great hub! Voted up, up and away!
feenix my brother: It is only when we fially realize that we cannot control anything in our lives and finally accept that if anyone can control things big or small that it is God and not us, that we achieve true peace in our simple lives.
It is only when we finally realize that in the twinkling of an eye, or the wave of God's hand, we could instantly lose our possessions, our wealth, our family and friends and possibly even our human lives, only then do we understand the true importance in the truth that we are not of this world, but that we are spirit in nature, created by God, even before the creation of the earth, and that we belong to Him and must return to Him when He recalls us.
I see what you mean you've got a good point.
Like Enlydia, I also lost my house three years ago (we had a small house fire). I was telling God today that I miss that house... but I'm also glad that I have a place to live in today. I've got better things waiting for me, no matter what happens in this life.
I've been well-off, and we currently live at around the poverty level. It was our choice though, as I chose to homeschool our kids and dh went to school. The long-term is more important to us than the immediate.
On the other hand, there are many people who are not looking in the long-term. They're not looking at the eternal things, or even 10 years down the road. If they were, then they wouldn't protest that a job at Subway wouldn't pay the bills, and would take that low-paying job so that they at least had some place to work up from.
Wow feenix, you should be on the pulpit PREACHIN IT!
Not ONE word is inaccurate or wrong! We all need to be reminded WHO is in charge from time to time.
Let rain...let it freeze....who gives a flip!
Chris
If you do, let me know, I may have to pay a visit!
Yes, without a doubt: too many believe that the government is their savior, and utopia will exist "soon". Modern narcissism and pessimism are a direct result.

feenix, I appreciate what you just wrote...we lost our house three years ago...and I have to admit that losing it was a blessing. Yes, I think it is a good thing when you must face that "things" are not so important, and that God promises to supply all of our needs.
I wondered about the Occupy people, and you have given us a little inkling to what they look like.
I have heard that in some places they are paid to "occupy". Sounds like an interesting job, right?
I considered it for a moment...paid to stand around and hold a sign...and then answer questions with dumb answers...I could do it...but I guess there is a price to pay for playing their game.
Blessings and nice to read this article today.
