When It Comes To Politics, I Ain't Nobody's Fool
60
First, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who follow my hubs and to those of you who have taken the time to read some of my hubs. And if this is your first time reading one of my posts, welcome to my world.
Also, those of you who are familiar with my writings are aware that I am what is often described as a black conservative. I vote only for Republicans and have never voted for a Democrat in my life, and I am strictly opposed to such things as affirmative action, same-sex marriage, abortion-on-demand, and the so-called Occupy Wall Street movement.
Now, onward I go.
A couple of weeks ago, while I having lunch with a friend, he posed a question to me. He asked, “Why are you a Republican? What has the Republican Party ever done for you, a black man?”
I could tell by his body language and the smug expression that came over his face that he thought he had backed me into a corner and that I would respond by hemming and hawing.
However, I disappointed him because that was not the case at all. As soon as he got the last word out of his mouth, I began to confidently answer his question. Quickly, I replied, It is not about me. It is about my country.
“What do you mean by that?” he inquired, looking puzzled.
I said, I do not support the Republican Party because I have some false hope that it will do something for me. I support that party because I believe that America is better off when there is a Republican in the White House and when Republicans hold majorities in both houses of Congress.
Continuing, I said, And the same applies when it comes to state and local governments. I believe that a state or city is better off when there is a Republican in the State House or City Hall and when Republicans comprise the majorities in state and local legislatures.
Coming back at me, he asked, “Yeah, but what if a Democrat is the better candidate for a particular office than the Republican candidate is? Would you still support the Republican?”
Absolutely, I replied. I do not ever vote for Democrats because for one thing, I believe that the Democrat Party is one of black people’s worst enemies.
“How can you say that,” he responded. “A whole lot of Republicans are racists and white supremacists.”
That is true, I said, but as far as I am concerned, the Democrat Party has inflicted more harm on blacks than the whites who enslaved their forebears ever did. For one thing, the Democrats’ pro-abortion agenda has caused millions of blacks to be murdered before they are even born.
Wrapping it up, I said, And besides, I do not ever vote for individuals. I only vote for a party and, of course, my party of choice is the Republican Party.
The conversation went on but I will end the discussion about it right here, because I want to get to the point I am trying to make in this article.
As I entitled this piece, When It Comes To Politics, I Ain’t Nobody’s Fool.
And that is the reason why I do not ever vote for individuals but only for my party of choice.
Specifically, when I cast my vote during an election, I do not vote for some individual because he/she has a lot of charisma or gives rousing speeches and performs quite well in debates. Nor is my selection based on some politician’s voting record, legislative experience, political philosophy, good looks or history in the area of race relations.
When I vote in a general election, for example, the only thing that matters to me when I flip the switch or check the box is that the candidate is a Republican.
Now, I fully realize that I do not have the right or the authority to tell anyone else how to vote. However, I do have the right to make suggestions.
And to my fellow Republicans and Conservatives (e.g. “Tea Partyers”) I strongly suggest that during this season of selecting a candidate to run against Barack Obama, you throw your support behind the man or woman who can beat him and not merely the one who you like a whole lot or agree with the most.
The name of the game is kicking Obama out of the White House or to stop there from being four more years of Obama.
So, Republicans and Conservatives, think about it -- and while you are thinking about it, be as objective as you can.
Which one of the people who is presently vying for the Republican nomination for president do you think has the best chance of beating Obama in 2012?

Well, it's not for me to argue with your perspective - as I've not had your experiences, and am therefore unable to have ..."walked a mile in your shoes."
I do personally enjoy your posts - and me agreeing with them isn't required for me to enjoy them.
I LIKE the fact that by and large - we call still say what we want to say without fear of reprisal - so long as we're not....well, "dangerous" I guess.
You're always interesting!!!! Hope you keep at it for as long as you wish to!
Wasn't it only in the
Late 60's when Democrats started to "care" about African Americans? For the most part, the Democratic Party was the Jim Crow Party.
feenix, you've echoed my own thoughts; I vote the Party line too, and wouldn't vote for a Democrat. I think we'd be much more likely to hold a Republican to the Party platform than we'd be to try to hold a Democrat to even the Constitution as it was meant to be held to. The only way I might think about voting non-Republican would be if they literally changed the Party platform, 'cause that Platform stands now on conservative Consitutional principles.
In my case, I'm not sure my mind is great; but it's conservative to the core! haha.
You look so good in that LA hat, I can't call you a Yankee anymore.
Now, you know I am an Independent and we don't care much for the Republicans in Tallahassee. Our man Charlie Crist thumbed his nose at them and ran Independent. We fell over backward and couldn't get him in because we had no machine. He was the popular choice. We got a Republican and he represented well. He is from up north and got filthy rich by bilking medicare with his vast, overpriced medical empire and shady development practices. He would drill offshore in a heartbeat and barbecue a manatee at the celebration party when they make record profits in the middle of a war and a recession. Why use reason when you vote?
The first thing the guest star from an episode of the X-Files did was cut a billion and a half in education. Maybe it was Michelle Rhee's Idea. He hired that hatchet lady as an adviser.
Well, brother we got him on the ropes. He couldn't go anywhere or do anything without getting a snoot full from a real Floridian. I mean, he couldn't wake up and look out the window to see if it was raining without the paper boy sticking his tongue out at him. He just announced a new budget. He put the money back.
You don't have a candidate that can beat Bullwinkle, never mind Barak Obama. I thought there were only three Stooges!
Now I can't respect a Commander-in-Cheif who can't sit all the way through the Army/Navy game. But, I come from a military family. President Obama is a good guy to have a beer with, but I don't care for the Democrats or their sneaky ways.
I am appealing to reason. Talk Charlie Crist into running. He knows what is wrong with the Republicans, and he is a wise man. The Republicans don't have anyone who can make that claim. The last good Republican president was Eisenhower. It has been downhill since.
The Republicans have put us in thee toilet, and the Democrats are splashing in the water. Use your mind and get them all out. Vote Independent.
feenix,
You are amongst the top five of my fav political scribers here on the Hub. And, I've already told you I dislike posting comments on politico-content because I lack the savvy for it.
So, I'll just say this ...
I sooooooo wish you'd been my political sciences instructor in college. You lecturing at the podium would have added a whole lot more votes toward the conservative faction.
You keep the information understandable. You bring it with enthusiasm. You make it worth fighting for. :)
Always your fan,
femme
Morning Feenix.
Being over in Europe we only get what the media lets us know about your politics.
But one thing i know is that you've got the same type or brand of people wanting to run our countries. It doesn't matter Conservative, Labour, Republican, Democrate or whatever they call themselves they are in Politics.
Do you know what the word "Politic's" means in old greek? No! Well "poli" means many, a lot of, and the word "tick" is something we have a lot of in the northern hemisphere and that is a little blood sucking creature. It tries to suck every last drop of blood out of you. In doing this it increases it's body size many times over.
So what have we, poli = many (a lot of) and ticks = blood sucking creatures. Put it all together and you have a lot of blood sucking creatures and that is Politic's as we know it today.
These people running our countries today must be from the same families as ticks, because they are so perfect at draining the last drop of blood out of us.
Just thought i'd let you know Feenix as everyone is having their say.
A subject that has no end.
Take care my friend and have a good day.
LOL Ghaelach
I voted the first time in 2000 election while my sophomore year. I have voted Republican ever since, even though i am a registered Independent. Before I only voted in the Major elections, but I make sure I vote every year now. For instance here in Allegheny County, county executive was up for election. Pittsburgh is major Dem terroritory and the dem, who has been executive and polititcian for a while.
It has been reported that property taxes here are going up by 21% and I have seen people complain. I love Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania greatly, but as soon as I can I am moving to a southern state. I don't know how you can put up with NYC and NY.
Hi feenix,
You have all the right to be dye-in-the-wool conservative, insisting the Republican party is better for the country at every level. You are not speaking to fools, although some of your audiences could well be. However, I have lived through Republican presidency that reconfigured this country for the worst. If you are true to yourself, you will admit that Obamas dilemma stems from the terrible economy Bush left behind. If you are sincere, you equally agreed that the pattern is that the Democratic party leaves surpluses, while the Republican squanders the surpluses through giveaways to the 1%, and unwarranted wars that line the pockets of cronies. I'm shocked you could justify slavery by any stretch. Slavery, to me is a mental torture, like sexual abuse on kids, that distort their lives forever. However, as a black man, my worry is that both the Republican and Democrats are not committed to helping my race in any significant way. The Democratic Party is convinced blacks have no other place to go, and are just doing the minimum to placate us. The Republican Party don't even want to try. Therefore, the answer for blacks is not in supporting either of the Parties, but to go to the parties with definitive black agenda, and to support the party that is willing to work with us. In the conversation with your friend, you could not pinpoint one thing the GOP has done for you, so do many blacks. If you do not believe in affirmative action, you are just living in a bobble. How do you counter white privileges, and white legacy that has catapulted them to the top of our collective consciousnesses?
Hi feenix, I don't know why the black community thinks that the Republicans are racist and haven't done anything for them. Lincoln was a Republican. After the Civil War the Republican Party supported civil and political rights for black people. And it was the Democratic Party in the South that made it hard for black people during the Civil Rights years. To me it's as if the Democrats bought off the black community with welfare entitlements and made them dependents, much to the detriment of black communities.
And lately, I don't know if we're that much better off with Republicans in the white house. They overspend, maybe not as much as The Democrats, but they certainly have added to the budgets over the years.
Feenix,
Another great one. I do have to admit I do vote the person unlees I have not idea who is running like some local races, then its by party, but it seems I vote Repub 95% of the time. I aqlso agree that noone owes any of us anythign period.
ONU
You could not be so wrong as you are about the economy. There is no question that things were going down, but Obama is the one that flushed it down the toilet. I am writing a hub soon as I finnish the last of my research to show the numbers exactly as they are.
Sorry feenix, they legalized loan sharking and white collar crime.
Hi feenix,
As a self-sufficient individual who happens to be black, and knowledgeable for that matter, why don't you lead the way of creating what you suggested to be a bold new movement fueled entirely by unlimited black enterprise, capitalism and self-determination. FYI, white America did not do all that. What they did was extract the labor and sweat of blacks to build a great nation, and has continuously distort history to create the impression that blacks are lazy. Unfortunately black men of great visibility, like you have bought into this propaganda.
Hey feenix
I'm a total independent as I like to think for my self. I have never voted a party line in my life. That being said. I HAVE noticed that whenever a democrat is president the economy drops out from under us. Look what happened when the pea brained peanut farmer was in office. High unemployment and record setting inflation. Almost as bad as we have today.
You and this hub is such a breath of fresh air.
I have many Democrat friends who basically treat me as the wicked witch from the West when it comes to politics. I wish I had your clarity and conviction so that they may see things from my perspective and know what I know.
Thank you and God Bless America for your courage to speak up. I loved this Hub, it demonstrates great integrity.
I don't think it will get better unless we get rid of politicians and lawyers.
"Which one of the people who is presently vying for the Republican nomination for president do you think has the best chance of beating Obama in 2012?"
Mitt Romney, ugh yeah I said it, I don't like it but he has the best chance to attract voters from both sides.
You are the Man Feenix! keep up the good work.
Well, feenix, ain't it wonderful to live in a country where we are all free to vote in whatever way our conscience and values lead us?
Hi feenix
"It is not about me. It is about my country."
The world would be a better place if we bought into your philosophy.
Voted up and awesome.
feenix, you have to help me out. This guy from Pittsburgh is contemplating moving to a southern state! You have to help me talk him out of it.
He is complaining about taxes and stuff like that. He needs to stay at home and fight, not come down here to escape. He willl only think we are stupid and run for county commissioner or worse. He will want to perpetuate the mentality that caused his problems on us. He argues against public education in his hubs for crying out loud. He probably thinks public school teachers are over paid. Please keep him above the Mason Dixon Line. We have enough Yankees like that already. Now, we know . . . you can't get good pizza down here.
Feenix,
I just found you on here and I must say I will be following you and awaiting your new hubs with anticipation!
I agree with your statement that voting for the country is what it's all about!
Voted up and kudos from a fellow New Yorker (upstate).
Always a pleasure to see your type.
The name of the game should be picking the best man for the job, and maybe if we were less dedicated to promoting parties we might just get people into political office who serve us and the nation instead a bunch of hyper, big headed sociopaths.
The word independent is starting to look more attractive everyday.
or self flagellating masochists?
Thank you for placing country above self. From your profile I can see it's way more than words for you as you risked your very life for America. I hope we all can look to the betterment of our nation and not ourselves in the upcoming election, assuming we get that far. I could not agree more he has to go but I have one fear above that of him staying upon his throne. I fear he knows way too much about our nation, our military, our strengths and our weaknesses. I Believe (the capitol letter is not a typo), that his loyalty is not to a Free America. This is just my opinion but everyday it becomes stronger. I know you will get my meaning. Thank you, sir, for this article, for speaking out and for your sacrifice for America.
Ok, ummmm first of all I will like to say thanks for sharing your idealism, and thoughts with us all @ Feenix.
I looked over the entire comment wall here and I find some things extremely disturbing here. Lets forget about the race issue or politics you spoke of, which I can tell by reading from the start of the hub, and throughout the body till the very end it is a major issue of yours, then finally the comment area. Its littered with many remarks and comments referring to the issue of race, quite frankly to me is of poor taste.
I take offense to it all when it comes to people formulating personal opinions on the race issue, and quite frankly I'm surprised that such language as you have used against a single commenter here, has been used in a derogatory means to support your position. Which was racist in its context, in actuality.
Now I personally don't care what color a person is period (check my stats if you wish), I have been dealing with the fact of being a product of more than several races blended in one (Mulatto). I don't like to see people behave in such a manner as to spread hatred towards one another, no matter what, or no matter where.
With that said you need to rethink things through as to what is going to be typed into any web based portal, because you never know who's going to see it all, and to what extend it will create a probable issue by offending someone, and or many people for that matter.
Your comment above towards (Onuigbos) was un-called for:
"You gotta be kidding. Negroes did not single-handedly build America. As a matter of fact, this nation was largely built by white people (who followed a code based on unlimited enterprise, capitalism and self-determination) and such groups as black people, brown people, red people and yellow people all pitched in to do their parts."
I truly don't appreciate this being stated here, and in anywhere for that matter. People who behave in such a manor tells me where their mind is at. It really doesn't matter if its your hub or not, this sort of poor behavioral conduct isn't acceptable, & may get you banned if its continued. (You must be careful what you type)
Why is it that some many other people who've commented after the unrighteous remarks was made, simply ignored the fact of its blatant wrong doing.
Maybe they all have simply not read that particular line or any for that matter, but I'm highly active on hubpages and so I read into everything I come in contact with.
Please don't simply ignore this issue I've brought up here, because there's many people on the web, and its everyone's problem now. Please do not take this issue lightly, because you should be held more accountable for whatever words being written onto the screen.
I'm sure if you read in the hubpages rules and regulations there, is a part about not writing offensive things & especially dealing with subjects regarding sex, race, nationality, or creed.
Your overall web reputation & not just your hubpages rep, is definitely in question here @ Feenix, so Lets hope you can come up with a respectable explanation for us viewers, as to why you've even thought of typing such language about a person & especially that of your own nationality, to eventually be viewed by the world wide web of viewers.
I have yet to run into a single hubber that I've had any issue with since I joined hubpages, but this truly is something I was surprised to bear witness too. I will say again this behavior here has offended me, and I request for it to stop immediately.
The usage of derogatory words in any form, against any person or group of persons should be outlawed throughout the entirety of the web in my honest opinion.
I truly think you need a wake up call, when it comes to effective communications with those who are in opposition to your perspective political views on things in generally.
The other questionable comment of yours @ Feenix, you wrote above is:
"My brotha, yo, papa is old and tired so I don't have it left in me to lead a bunch of stubborn negroes to the babbling brook where most of them won't drink the water anyway."
Please explain yourself here, I think you owe us all an explanation. Thank you and please do not ignore my inquiry.
Obviously, Cloud explorer doesn't understand tongue-in- cheek humor. Even though we will not always agree all the time, I like the way you write and stand up for your beliefs. Keep the hubs coming.
Thanks, Feenix
the feelings mutual
feenix,
I understand (and like) your tongue-in-cheek style of writing. I wasn't offended.
Well if I was to do the same as Feenix has done here in his hubs comment section towards any fellow hubber, I'm pretty sure I would have been removed from hubpages for abusive behavior, I do not like the double standard at all, you've created here.
I'm sure if any of the non-black authors on hubpages has done the same as you've done here, it wouldn't be accepted as well, and you have violated the policies here, in terms of the usage of such racial epitaphs or language.
I'm surprised the system has accepted what you've wrote but I will not, and stand firm on the premise of what you've wrote has been perceived by me to be unfair and unequal treatment across the board here on hubpages.
Being accountable for what you do online is currently becoming a well known thing today.
So good luck on your "Cheek" thing you been referring too, but this is the real world, & you would have been fired from a job quickly by doing as you did, no matter whom you may believe yourself to be. I'm done reading your hubs for sure.
I wish you much success though in what ever you choose to do, its just that language of yours was intolerable to me in every way.
@ Cloud Explorer
I AM a "non-black" author here on hub pages and I too use humor to express ideas and thoughts that if directly addressed might offend people. However, I am also one of the type of person who thinks if you don't like me the way I am You can go f#$# yourself.
No problem at all, feenix
I'm not proud of a lot of things in our country's history. The Native American genocide in the name of manifest destiny was horrible. Slavery was almost equally bad. But, it is time to move forward. We can not change the past. It is time everyone started on equal terms. I'm so tired of all the double standards. Affirmative action is not equality. It should be the best man or woman for the job. Feenix, thanks for being such a realist.
